Between October 2016 and April 2017, I worked with Kate Allen and others in the team at ScotDec to research and write copy for 17 activity cards and a supplementary booklet. The activities were commissioned by Scouts Scotland, to support volunteers to education young people about the Global Goals agreed by the UN and supported by millions of people world wide.
This unique project gave me an incredible opportunity. I spent time researching and collaborating with Scout leaders and young people while learning new things about world-changing topics. It was an honour to contribute to the learning and development of the younger generation. I look forward to seeing them become an unstoppable force for change.
I asked Kate for some feedback after we’d completed the project.
“Katie was able to work within a fairly tight deadline and create an engaging resource suitable for the audience. She had a basic brief, but was given the space and flexibility to bring her own ideas to the project. She came to the initial meeting with a lot of questions and was obviously keen to learn how we work and fully understand the project ambitions. We gave Katie a variety of material to research, which she spent a long time analysing. She took the initiative to discuss the potential activities with a wider audience in order to select the right activities.
“Working with Katie was a very positive experience. She met with us regularly and was very happy to talk on the phone whenever necessary. We had a very open working relationship and she was happy to make adaptations after we piloted the activities with a small group of Leaders. I would be very happy to work with Katie again.”
